Through her writing, Nina placed Nigerian women in the world consciousness, because her first book, Nigerian Women Mobilized made it possible for the impressive example of the women’s militancy during the anti-colonial struggle to be taught on courses all over Europe, Australia and the United States, as well as from Cairo to Capetown.

Personal LifeAdapting To Foreign Culture, Society...
MY GREATEST CHALLENGE As a child listening to her parents recount the horrendous story on the persecution and murder of the Jews, little did she realise she would devote most of her adult life to the study of history. Youthful aspirations for a tour around Europe were put on hold as she travelled to Nigeria where she lived for 36 years. In her eloquent, curt style, Dr Nina Mba, lecturer in history and biographer, takes us through her life. I was born in Sydney, Australia. My parents had come into Australia separately; my mother was from New Zealand, and stopped at Sydney while on her way to England, on a working tour. But then the war broke out and she couldn't go beyond Australia. I lost her very early after an involvement in a car accident with a drunk driver and the memory remains a sad one for me. My father came to Australia as a refugee from Germany in 1939, one month before the war broke out. He was escaping from the persecution of the Jews in Europe; at the time his family had all died in concentration camps. |
