Benedict Okagbue Mba was born on the 24th of February 1936 into the Mba family of Umudei, Onitsha. He had three brothers and a sister.
His childhood was in Onitsha where he received his primary school education. He eventually moved to Lagos where he attended Saint Gregory’s College for his secondary school education from 1950 to 1956. Ben attended Saint Augustine Higher School in Nkwere from 1957 to 1959. He excelled at College, obtaining a Common Wealth Scholarship to study Political Science and History at the University of Ottago in New Zealand from 1961 to 1965. He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in History. While at University, Ben met his future wife, Nina Emma Gantman. |
He role modelled fairness and justice tempered by mercy in all his interactions with friends, family and colleagues. He believed very strongly in the integrity of one’s character, one’s word should be one’s bond.
